When God Told Me To Burn A Suitcase
The Choice to Believe What God Was Showing Me
Over the past decade, God has shown me so much. I could choose to believe it or not. I could choose to believe that I was crazy or not. Others could choose to believe I am crazy or not.
All of this led to a culmination where I had to repent. Repent of believing I was crazy. Repent of being concerned about others who think I am crazy. Repent of how this mind game was holding me back.
Repenting of a Religious Mindset
I had to repent of even thinking I deserved for God to speak to me. My religious mindset determined that I prayed. I fasted. I did all the right things, so therefore God "had" to speak to me.
He was very clear that he did not have to speak to me. (Truth)
"I speak to you because I want to and for no other reason." (Truth)
"I will speak to whoever I want whenever I want." (Truth)
Again came the repentance process. It was this realization in a new and deeper way that began to open up my mind to whatever he wanted to show me or do. My object was obedience. I didn't go looking for anything, but Him.
Trained Layer by Layer for What God Prepared in Advance
As He refined my mindset and my beliefs, he also began training and using me in new ways. Layer upon layer, it was all a training ground for today. And all that I have experienced, learned or seen has been continually building for what I will need tomorrow and beyond for what He has prepared in advance for me to do.
Ephesians 2:8-10 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Arriving in Africa with Greater Spiritual Authority
As I arrived in Africa, I knew I was coming with a greater authority. I didn't know what that meant, what authority I was walking in or what I was supposed to do with it. I just knew that it was a gift that God had chosen to bestow upon me. So, imagine my surprise when I received a message from a prayer partner.
"You have picked up a demonic spirit in your travels. There was a curse placed in the suitcase that was left behind. It is a Spirit of embezzlement. The demonic encounter was never meant to be sexual, but to intimidate. They want the authority and power that you walk in. They want you to honor them."
Me and my family are done honoring anyone but the One True God, the Father of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. My siblings and I have repented for ourselves, our ancestors, our families, and the generations to come for the ways we have partnered with false gods. I will not turn back now.
Identifying and Destroying Cursed Items
The Holy Spirit would reveal (through others) and confirm (in Africa) that curses were placed on suitcases and items in the suitcases. We followed the lead of the Holy Spirit and identified these items disposing of them as directed by the Holy Spirit. For some, that meant burning. As Moses demonstrated in Deuteronomy 9:18-21, we repented, melted it down in the fire and threw the dust into a stream that flows down the mountain.
Was I 100% sure this was real at the time? Probably not. But what harm would be done by burning a suitcase if I was wrong? Probably not.
The Fire That Surprised Me
I bought a new brai-bin for the burning. In American terms, this is half of a 50 gallon drum (lengthwise) and it is what South Africans use for grilling. I got it home and set it in the front yard where I believe God told me to put it. "Make a spectacle of the burning. Let everyone see it." So, in the front of the house where the neighbors and passerbys had viewing access, I put the suitcase in the brai-bin and set it ablaze.
Again, I am surprised. Within two minutes the entire suitcase was engulfed in flames. I have time stamped photos for proof. (Fluke). I am not afraid of fires and have grown up around fires my entire life. This fire became so hot so quickly, I immediately had to back up away from the heat. It was so hot, that paint rolled off the new brai bin. Within ten minutes, the suitcase was nothing but ash.
When God's People Saw the Photos
Knowing I was not crazy, but also not wanting to scare followers of my journey, I selectively shared the pictures. Within two days, I knew this was too real to withhold and shared with the bigger group (via WhatsApp) that had committed to pray, fast, or follow my journey. The reaction to these pictures was again astounding. Followers began commenting on what they were seeing via the pictures. Faces, Arms, Horses, Hearing screams. Pictures alone were having an intense effect on God's people halfway around the world.
This group was a safe place for people to experience, speak, and learn from other believers however God wanted to.
A Second Object Identified
Two days later, as someone was looking through other pictures, another object was identified. Was it real or not?
As gifts for the missionaries and South Africans we brought over bottles of Chick Fil A Sauce. One of the bottles was identified as having something evil attached. As we pulled out the bottles, we can see that one bottle has something visible on the outside of the bottle. We decide it is not worth the risk and choose to dump the sauce.
The tainted bottle is thin and runny, not normal. The other one is thick and glumpy as it should be. We successfully discard all the sauce. I pray over them and thank the Lord for the revelation.
We Didn't Go Looking for It
Without a full understanding, we have no knowledge of what happened, when, where or why. But we are grateful for our prayer supporters and for even potentially averting any crisis.
We didn't go looking for it. But as the Lord guided His people, we were willing to have an open mind and take steps of obedience grateful for his willingness to rescue us yet again from a trap of the enemy.
