Encountering the Supernatural
When Ordinary Days Turn Extraordinary: A Deliverance Testimony
It is always a normal day until it is not.
I received a phone call. Did I have plans for tomorrow night and if not, would I be willing to come and pray for her? Actually, I was invited to sit in and pray for a deliverance session. Although I didn’t understand all of it, I had agreed to pray for my friend and I did have the assurance of the Lord that it was safe for me to go.
What I Witnessed: Deliverance in Practice
I sat quietly and prayed in the spirit (in tongues) for most of the session. Watching. Observing. Praying. And at the end, I got to ask some questions. I literally witnessed demons being cast out of multiple people that night. I realize that this is a hot button with many Christians, but the supernatural is just that and there are many accounts in the Bible where Jesus and the apostles did this very act.
I knew I did not have all the answers, but after witnessing what I just had, my heart was open to whatever God wanted to do. I did not think I had any demons in me, but if I did I wanted them out. And began praying about whether or not I could partake in and or benefit from deliverance ministry.
It was not immediate, but my answer was yes. It was a night I will never forget. I invited my pastor and his wife along with a few friends. I wanted them to not just pray but also observe. I wanted to experience greater freedom if that was what God had for me, but I also wanted it to be in Biblical order.
Freedom in Christ: The Aftermath of Deliverance
Demons were cast out of me that night. And the freedom I began to experience was unlike any change in me before. I spent a lot of time in prayer and the Word to figure out what happened, why and how to learn to walk in my new freedom. Like a child learning to talk, I had to renew my mind, my thoughts, and my responses in agreement with my new freedom. This was not instantaneous and would take several months if not years to continue living in greater levels of freedom.
I wanted everyone to experience the new found freedom I was experiencing. I asked if I could become an apprentice and learn, but God had a different plan. He wanted to train me himself. And so began another step into my adventures with God.
Understanding the Gifts: Romans and Corinthians on the Supernatural
If you are still with me, the Bible outlines many “Gifts of the Spirit” both in Romans 12 and in I Corinthians 12. As humans with limited understanding, we have an easier time understanding and comprehending some of these like teaching, serving, administration or giving. But others seem harder to grasp like wisdom, discernment, speaking in tongues or healing.
We can all choose to believe that these gifts are applicable today or that they are not applicable today. And I certainly don’t anticipate that this quick summary will change your mind. However, the word of my testimony is that the supernatural is alive. The power of Jesus is real. That the blood of Jesus heals and sets captives free.
I have watched him reveal remarkable things, re-write lies the enemy has written for generations, and set people free from unthinkable circumstances and bondage.
Repentance & Spiritual Warfare: Why the Battle Continues
I have learned the power of repentance. For myself, my family, my ancestors and my generational line. For my church, my city, my state and my country. For pastors. For addicts. For those in power and those who have been abused and yes trafficked. True repentance of sin is powerful. True repentence is for everyone and it changes everything.
There are churches in America and around the world who recognize this gift and operate in it. Deliverance is a powerful tool and can truly set anyone free from bondage. It is also a gift like any other that can be manipulated and abused.
I am simply sharing my experience. It is part of how God has trained and prepared me to travel the world for His glory. The spiritual realm is real. The light is always more powerful than the darkness. But don’t underestimate evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, the mighty powers in this dark world or the evil spirits in heavenly places. (Galations 6:12) Scripture warns us for a reason.
The more I travel and spend time where God has called me, the more I realize just how relentless the evil powers are. And how helpless they are when the light of the Gospel is shining through our lives.
