Strengthening the Hands That Serve the World

A Calling Beyond Going

At Umbwella’s Stand, we believe that missions is not only about going—it is about sustaining. It is about stepping into the quiet, often unseen spaces where encouragement, presence, and practical help become lifelines for those who have said “yes” to long-term calling.

Last year, Rick and Connie Bohner stepped into one of those spaces.

Faithfulness in the Everyday

For nearly 90 days, they served in Germany with open hands and willing hearts, not fully knowing what the Lord would ask of them—but trusting that He would make it clear. What unfolded was not a mission defined by a single role or title, but by availability.

It was a season marked by faithfulness in the everyday: showing up, leaning in, and serving wherever there was need.

In a community that serves as a hub for multiple mission organizations reaching Europe, Asia, and Africa, the Bohners came alongside those already on the ground. These missionaries are faithfully pouring out their lives—often far from extended family, familiar culture, and consistent support systems. While their work is vital, it can also be isolating.

That is where the Bohners stepped in.

They helped with practical needs—cleaning, moving, preparing spaces, and supporting weekly gatherings. They created environments for connection through shared meals and simple hospitality. They served within the church, contributed to Bible study, and made themselves available for conversations over coffee and moments of prayer.

The Ministry of Presence

But more than anything, they offered presence.

They listened to stories—stories of faith, of challenge, and of perseverance. They celebrated victories and sat in the weight of hard seasons. They reminded missionaries and their families that they are not alone, not unseen, and not forgotten.

This kind of ministry is both unique and essential.

It is not always measured in visible outcomes or immediate results, but in strengthened hearts, renewed vision, and the quiet reassurance that someone cares enough to come close. It is the kind of work that allows long-term missionaries to continue forward with endurance.

And the impact was clear.

As their time in Germany came to a close, the question they heard repeatedly was simple but significant: When are you coming back?

That question speaks to more than appreciation—it reflects the deep need for ongoing support within these mission communities.

Returning to What Matters

Now, the Bohners are preparing to return.

This upcoming trip will look a little different, but the heart behind it remains the same. They will once again step into a season of service, this time during an especially meaningful period for the community they are supporting. Their time will overlap with significant events, including a major anniversary celebration and graduation week—both moments when missionaries, students, and families gather, reconnect, and reflect.

These are not just events; they are anchor points for a community that lives much of life in transition.

During this time, the Bohners will serve in whatever ways are needed—helping behind the scenes, supporting gatherings, assisting families, and continuing to offer encouragement and care. They are also walking through the process of being cleared to serve more directly within the school environment, expanding their ability to support both students and staff during a busy and meaningful season.

As with their previous trip, their role is not to take center stage, but to come alongside—to strengthen, to support, and to serve.

An Invitation to Be Part of the Story

The Bohners embody this mission beautifully.

Their willingness to go, to serve in unseen ways, and to invest in relationships reflects the kind of Kingdom work that often goes unnoticed but carries eternal impact. It is a reminder that missions is not only about those who are sent long-term, but also about those who come alongside them—lifting their arms, sharing their burdens, and speaking life into their journey.

As they prepare for this next season in Germany, there are many moving pieces—logistics, travel, housing, and the physical demands of the work ahead. But beyond the details, the greatest need remains the same: prayer and partnership.

We invite you to be part of this story.

Pray for open hearts and clear direction as they step into each opportunity.
Pray for strength, endurance, and continued health.
Pray for the missionaries they will serve—that they would be refreshed, encouraged, and reminded of the greater story they are part of.

And if you feel led, you can support this mission in a tangible way. Every gift helps make space for this kind of ministry to continue—quietly strengthening those who are serving around the world:
