$30 Goes A Long Way This Giving Tuesday

What began as a simple act of obedience—sitting down with three pastors from the Khayelitsha, Philippi, and Samora Machel townships in South Africa—quickly became something more. I arrived with only a handful of questions, asking the Holy Spirit to lead the conversation. And in that quiet posture of listening, I learned about an evangelistic outreach taking place deep within the settlement communities.

Foursquare All Nations Church, a congregation of about forty people, had stepped out in faith. They rented a tent, set up chairs, prepared soup, and opened their arms to their neighbors. The result? One hundred families received the Bread of Life every day for an entire week. The total cost: just $30 per day.

For $30, the gospel was preached, the hungry were fed, and hope was restored—both through the truth that nourishes the soul and warm, freshly baked bread that filled empty stomachs.

As an American, I was stunned. Thirty dollars a day—one family’s takeout meal—was enough to feed an entire community and create space for the message of Jesus to go forth.

And the fruit?
People were saved. Lives were transformed. New births into the kingdom took place right there in that tent.
